If you are taking medications for any reason, it is important to always take them when you are supposed to, and not to miss any doses. After all, you are taking medication for a reason, and you may as well do it right so you don’t end up having to take more. It is just as important to make sure that you are not double-dosing. The last thing you want to do is overdose on any medication. At the very least, it is going to make you feel pretty nauseous. It could even kill you, depending on the medication and how much you take. Not taking your medications or taking too much will keep you from getting better. Here are a few tricks you can use so you always remember to take your medications at the right times.

  • Divide Pills in Separate Bottles – Keep some of your pills at home, and some at work. This way, they are always there when you need them. If you happen to forget to take your pills before leaving the house in the morning, they will be waiting for you at work so you don’t end up missing the doses all together. Yes, this can be a bit of a pain to do, but you’ll get used to it after a while and it will seem like second nature. The only exception would be if your medications are considered controlled substances. You might just want to leave them at home anyway, so this isn’t going to work for you.
  • Get Memo Box – Memo Box is a tool you can use with your cell phone, and you will get reminders if you haven’t taken your pills. You will even get a reminder if you have left your Memo Box at home. There is a daily tracker so you know exactly what medications you have taken, and when, and if you have forgotten to take anything. It will warn you if you are about to take a double dose. This is an awesome gift for anyone who is a caregiver to seniors. If you have senior family members who live on their own, they will love receiving this from you. Users can go online and check to make sure that they have taken their medications when they were supposed to, and even be alerted when they forget to take a pill. It is small and convenient to carry, and the smart alarm will only go off if medications are forgotten.
  • Sort Medications – Each night before you go to bed, place all of your medications on a cupboard, in the order that they are to be taken. When you take each one, move it to the end of the row, so you know that it has been taken. Or, you can pre-sort your medications and place everything for the day in one bottle. Once the bottle is empty, you know you have taken the right doses. Both of these methods can be time consuming, and they aren’t fool-proof.
  • Use a 7-Day Pill Box – You can take all of your medications and put them into boxes that are marked for each day of the week. Just put pills for each day in the proper box. The problem with this is that it can be a pain to sort through all of your pills, especially when you have to take pills out of blister packets. Also, these boxes can be bulky to carry around with you all the time, and if you are anything like most of us, there are going to be times when you forget to bring it along with you.
  • Use Audio Reminders – Your cell phone likely has an alarm function. You can set it to various times of the day to remind you to take your medications. You use your phone for things like checking your Facebook status, so why not use it for something important too? Be sure to use an alarm tone that is separate from others you use, so you will know when it goes off that it is time to take your pills. Another option is to set your alarm clock, but if you have to take medications at different times of the day, this means you are going to be setting your clock repeatedly, and you may forget to do so.
